What You Can Do With a UK Work Visa?

Once you have a UK work visa from Dubai, you will be able to:

  • Work in the UK in a sponsored position using the skilled worker route. (Also subject to new limitations regarding family.)
  • Bring your dependents with you. After the qualifying period of stay, apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
  • Change employers under the appropriate guidelines or switch to a different visa category, such as Global Talent.
  • After your visa requirements are satisfied, you can access education and healthcare through the NHS.

Policy / Rule Updates- Effective from 22 July 2025

Here are a few changes in the visa policy that you need to keep in mind before you proceed with the application process to avoid any loopholes and mistakes in your application, enhancing the probability of it getting accepted.

  1. An Increase in Required Skills: All roles at RQF Level 6 (which is equivalent to bachelor's degree level) or above, except for roles included in the Temporary Shortage List (TSL) or Immigration Salary List (ISL), will now have a new degree of skill required in order to qualify for the Skilled Worker route.
  2. An Increase in Entry Salary: The total entry salary of £41,700 has now been raised, and there are now also updated salary levels effective for STEM roles, PhDs, and entry-level roles.
  3. TSL-Extended: Under TSL and stricter conditions, some medium-skilled roles (RQF 3-5) may be eligible up to the end of 2026, subject to the skill level required for the role.
  4. Adjusted Dependent Rules: Employees in replacement roles at RQF 3-5 roles under TSL are not eligible to bring dependents; ex-sponsors have transitional allowances.
  5. Transitional Provisions:Provided CoS were issued prior to April 2024, CoS holders may remain eligible for category/salary requirements under the old thresholds until the end of the 2028-2030 period.

Eligibility & Requirements

You will need a job offer from an organization that is a licensed sponsor and has a valid Certificate of Sponsorship. You should hold a job that is eligible (sponsored under TSL/ISL or RQF level 6+), meet your category’s new salary requirement, and prove your knowledge of English. Also, provide the relevant criminal history, medical history, and financial evidence. At last, determine if you can take dependents based on the level of your job and the CoS issue date.

Application Process- Step by Step

Carefully go through the step-by-step application process as it's a make-or-break situation. From here, your application may move forward or get rejected if not done right.

  • You have to receive a job offer from a UK company that has an active sponsor license
  • A Sponsorship Certificate (CoS) is issued. You check that you meet the skill and pay thresholds for the position.
  • Gather the required documents, such as the English test, evidence of finances, and any required medical or TB tests.
  • Then submit your online visa application. You pay the immigration health surcharge and provide your biometrics.
  • Wait for a decision, and if approved, you will arrive in the UK and begin working. Then, presuming you remain in lawful stay and meet residency and income thresholds, you have a good start to ILR applications.

Costs, Salary Thresholds & Processing Time

Here are the estimated costs/expenses and time that you need to invest in this whole visa process.

  • Visa cost: Varies based on position and length of stay.
  • Health surcharge: Approximately £1,035 for every 12-month period of stay.
  • Salary requirements: The minimum salary threshold is £41,700, although there are lower thresholds for TSL dependent roles, PhD graduates, and new entrants.
  • Processing time: 3-8 weeks, depending on the country and sponsorship status.

Always ensure you have the correct documentation and your role meets UK work Visa requirements to avoid delays.

Trends & Why It Matters Now

The UK government is tightening its immigration policy with a revised focus on high-skilled migration (RQF 6+) and increased sponsorship compliance. For those seeking a UK working visa, it is recommended to apply soon, particularly before the transitional deadlines lapse stemming from the 2025 changes. There continues to be an enormous demand for qualified professionals, as a result of talent shortages in engineering, technology, and healthcare, even within the strictures of the UK reform. Having a compliant and prepared application will help secure opportunities more quickly.
